Idea Development
Mockup
I decided to quickly mock up how my game will look on the two different worlds. As you can see, the foreground remains the same colour, but the background ‘sky’ colour will change, along with the character colours, which will match the background, but darker. This will not be the final pixel art style and is only to show what will change between worlds. The art style will be thoroughly thought out and a tileset will be made. The characters, however, may have more variance with each world, such as hair colour, hitbox and overall shape.
Level Ideas
Even though I designed some levels with my time-travelling concept in mind, some of them are easily transferable to my current concept. One of my favourites to implement will be the grab mid-world switch. despite not having wall grabbing in my game, I will still be able to implement this by having ledges which exist on one side in one world, and some ledges which exist in the other world.
To expand a little on my level Ideas, I started using my working prototype to make quick little levels to not only check if my prototype works, but also to attempt to create some levels.
The first idea I wanted to attempt is where you have to switch worlds as you move up a column, jumping from side to side as shown below. This can be done in a few different ways and I can even add the ladder where you have to jump onto two different ladders in each world.
Name/Logo Generation
Despite the fact that I came up with the name ‘Time to Shift’ when my game was originally going to contain time travel, I think the name still works quite well and the whole game is about choosing the right moment to ‘shift’ between worlds, using the shift key. In the first instance, I had the name ‘Time Shifter’ in the back of my mind when my first game concept was being developed. However, since Time Shifter was more focused on the shifting of time, I decided to move forward with ‘Time to Shift’ for the time being.
For my Logo, I wanted to start conceptualising a concept which would work quite well. As shown below, is the first logo I made while I had the time-travelling concept, therefore the clock in the background of the logo won’t remain the same. However, the main concept of my logo will come from the ‘shift’ being slanted to the side to show movement, perhaps with arrows on either side to show the shifting ability. I also want to include at least two different colours in my logo, to represent the two different worlds the player will be shifting in between.
